Report Claims New Fuel Efficiency Standards Will Create 570,000 Jobs By 2030

OIL Price -- New fuel economy standards proposed in 2011 by the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation could create 570,000 jobs between 2017 and 2030, according to a report released today by the BlueGreen Alliance.

The report was produced in association with the Sierra Club, the United Auto Workers, the National Resources Defense Council, and the American Council for an Energy- Efficient Economy, and can be found here.

The new standards have a number of benefits. First, the innovation necessary to meet the mandated 54.5 mph average by 2025 will create 50,000 jobs in design, manufacturing and development. The roughly $68 billion saved by consumers at the pump due to the standards could help create another 500,000 or so jobs. ACEEE Executive Director Steve Nadel described it

This report comes from the center for American progress A FAR left wing group whose only purpose is to spread dubious information enough that we the people assume it must be true. We need to quit falling for this trash.

Creating bureaucrats, and jobs in captive industries that win their business by participating in this extortion = winning platform for The Won and his Lapdog Press.

Don't believe it. They talk about jobs that 'could' be created, but what about potential jobs lost? I am all for the higher mileage standard, but what happens to the gas stations when people aren't going there as often? They make their money off the sales of snacks, drinks, etc, and what will the impact be on them and their suppliers if they lose a portion of their customers for the simple reason that they don't 'have' to go there? Maybe it is negligible, but I often wonder why estimates on how many jobs 'could' be created never mention the possible jobs that 'could' be lost.

Let me see if I get this, proposals made in 2011 will start creating jobs in 2017 and end with creating 570,000 jobs by 2030.

Too bad they didn't make those proposals six years ago. It might be having an impact today.

And how many will be lost in the meantime, afterall it is almost 20 years away and only an estimate of what could be created.

Do we really have any reason to trust these jobs projections?

First, the real jobs are high tech requiring more education than the unemployed masses have and the second portion of jobs depend on the comnsumer spending money saved to grow the economy. Those are phantom jobs and I rest my case.

Interesting idea, but there is still a lot of questions too it. There could be some data/ideas which may be left out which could lead to change.

But the bigger question is how MANY jobs will the continued high gas pump prices from pig-oil industry cause to go away BECAUSE of greed on their part impacting all aspects of commerce?

How many jobs will be lost in other related segments due to the changes? Jobs related to fuel trucking, tank maintenance, pump manufacturing and maintenance, etc., will decrease with the $68 billion sales decline.

that's great for 5 years from now .. the liberals will tout this as a job creater now and then again in 5 years. This creates only 31k jobs per year or 2500 per month.
