Seaway Pipeline Expansion on Track For 2013

Fox Business / Dow Jones Newswires -- Enbridge Inc. (ENB) and Enterprise Products Partners LP (EPD) said Tuesday they are on schedule to expand the amount of Midwestern crude oil they send to Gulf Coast refiners via their Seaway pipeline.
"Construction of the pump stations will be complete sometime this year or early next year," Enbridge spokesman Larry Springer said. "However, we don't expect that volumes will ramp up to the full capacity until sometime during the first quarter."
Work on the 500-mile pipeline's pump stations should be done by the end of this year but could slip into next year, Springer said. After the work is complete, the amount of oil shipped along Seaway would slowly ramp up from its current 150,000-barrels-a-day capacity as shippers sign on. The companies plan to build an additional line running parallel

We'll see.

That would certainly help the economy.

With futures (price of gas 3-4 weeks ahead) indicating prices will be below $3 my statement holds true.

Go back to 2009, when oil was in the $80 range and gas was under $3.

Hmmm. Avg ppg in Texas In April 2012 over $3.80. Avg price in Texas today $3.23. A 16+% drop. Oil has dropped 19% in that same time period.

rj: some drop in gas prices in the US is due to global recession, but it's not a global drop in prices at the pump.

Oil prices, perhaps. But oil is still a world market.

Where is the fall in gasoline prices to match the fall in oil prices?

US increased production (increased supply and less imported at Brent prices) has certainly been part of the reason oil prices have declined. There's no doubt about that.

Which is a result of the fall in world oil prices, not anything to do with domestic production.

drpepperTX - "Good, someone has done some actual research. And futher research will reveal that the vast majority exported distillates are refined from imported crude oils. Domestic crude and refined product from that crude stays mostly within the US."

Which doesn't seem to have any effect on domestic prices.

Which generally do not apply to export of refined products.

"At present, petroleum products (e.g., gasoline, kerosene, distillates, propane or butane gas, diesel fuel and residual fuel oil) refined within the United States are not subject to short supply export controls, with one exception. If the refined products were produced or derived from crude oil obtained from the Naval Petroleum Reserve (NPR) or became available as a result of an exchange of any NPR produced or derived commodities, a license is required to all destinations including Canada."
Testimony of Honorable R. Roger Majak, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration

"Just more oil for the oil companies to export."

Nope. Funny how some have no understanding of the strict export laws and restrictions on domestic oil exports.

Still sounds like construction delays could push out the date when it can start to be used.
